Program Description The Family & Mental Health Programme is aimed at developing a family focused approach within mental health services in CSAHS. The focus is on parents who are clients of CSAHS mental health services, and who have children 0-18 years. It is a new programme and works with other agencies to provide some services and programmes for families. Programmes provided so far include: 1. School holiday programme for children and young people 8-14 years. This three day, non-residential programme is held twice yearly. 2. Support group for Mothers with a mental illness. One nine-week pilot group has been held Further programmes are being planned. For further information contact Heather Keens
Evaluation Information All programmes are evaluated. For example, the School Holiday Programme has pre- and post-questionnaires for both parents and young people (adapted from Young Carers NSW) The Support Group for Mothers also used pre- and post-questionnairs, adapted from the 'Getting There ... Together' support group in Victoria
Evidence The School Holiday Programme was developed after a survey identified many young people living with current clients of CSAMHS. It has developed and been adapted from successful programmes run by Young Carers NSW, Gaining Ground in SW Sydney, and On Fire! The Support Group for Mothers was inspired by the 'Getting There ... Together' group in Victoria, as well as information gained from clinical experience within CSAMHS.
