| Program Description |
Cross Sectional analysis of health and well-being of 8-12
year old children of mothers who have personality disorders, with predominant cluster B
features.Specifically exploring intrapsychological (child) and intrafamilial attributes
(including mother's partner, if present) contributing to resilience in the child. (Janet
Devlin; PhD study) |
| Evaluation Information |
Great deal of literature to suggest potentially high impact
of parental mental illness upon child health and well-being, especially mental health.
Clinical experience suggests that children of mothers with personality disorders may be at
especially high risk compared to those with mothers having other disorders due to the
pervasive nature of the disorder, the implications for parenting and the reduced
likelihood of therapeutic or supportive intervention. Measures of child, parent and
family functioning are compared between (maternal) personality disordered samples and
those with other forms of mental illness.
Measures include (but not limited to:
Child Behaviour Checklist - multiple informants
Child stress/trauma measure (to be determined)
Index Parent Interview
IPDE (mother)
CIDI (mother)
GHQ (father)
Measure of family functioning/coping |
