Program Description VicChamps has been funded for three years from July 2003, by Vichealth, Beyond Blue and Mental Health branch. Is a partnership between Eastern Health and Upper Murray Family Care. The project will build on existing CHAMPS activities to develop a model of best practice which promotes the health and wellbeing of children aged 5 - 12 who have a parent with a mental illness. It will include peer suport programs, professional development, community education, and resource development.
Evaluation Information

La Trobe University (Albury Wodonga campus) will work with VicChamps over three years. The evaluation will focus on
1. Education in the community,
2. Peer and family support programs,
3. To enhance community and workforce capacity to identify, assess, support and refer at-risk children.

Evidence The CHAMPS model of peer support has been developing over the past 8 years and has been evaluated using some quantitiative measures(eg Piers Harris) and has been extensively qualitatively evaluated using pre and post interviews, focus group discussions and questionnaires.
