COPMI Project Update - 10/10/2003

Mental Health Day

Best wishes from the COPMI project team to all on World Mental Health Day. We're aware that it's been an exhausting week for many people involved in displays, forums, presentations, fairs etc. Congratulations on all your hard work in raising awareness about mental health within your local communities.

Local/Regional COPMI Services

Yesterday, at a mental health forum run by the local consumer advocacy group in Murray Bridge, South Australia, one of the guest speakers was Peter McMahon, Project Officer with the Sage Hill Carers Service in Warrnambool, Victoria. It was great to learn more about their SHAnKS program which provides "mutual support, education and social activities for young people, 6 to 16 years of age, where a family member has significant mental health issues or concerns" (to quote their pamphlet).

Hearing about the fun times and support that this volunteer assisted program is able to provide to families in their local community reminded me to make another call for people to register their COPMI programs on our website. This will assist people wishing to advise or refer on young people and/or families by providing web-access to current information about services in their area. You can register details of your group or program on-line now by going to http://www.aicafmha.net.au/copmi/national/programs/index.htm
