COPMI Project Update - 12/09/2003

Resource List Update

We've added a few extra items to our Resource List lately. The CHAMPS program in Victoria has released a new website for children in the 5-12 year age group who have an adult member of their family with mental illness - www.champsworldwide.com. They are still developing it so are keen to receive feedback about the site from children in that target group.

The Social Care Institute for Excellence in the UK has released a document called "Families that have alcohol and mental health problems: A template for partnership working". It is downloadable from http://www.scie.org.uk/sciesproducts/resourceguides/

Also thanks to the people who suggested we add the book "Out of The Darkened Room" to our list. This book, written by William Beardslee, is sub-titled "When a Parent is Depressed: Protecting the Children and Strengthening the Family" and draws on his work and research in prevention programs with families affected by parental depression.

Focus Groups

We have now run a number of focus groups around the country to gain feedback about the booklets, posters and postcards we've developed. Tracey Kay, Paola Mason and I have been privileged to meet with some fantastic young people, parents, 'parents to be' and people who work with them all. We extend our thanks to everyone concerned for their contribution to the project outcomes and look forward to running a few more groups before the end of the month.
