COPMI Project Update - 16/7/2004

Information On-line and at the TheMHS-AICAFMHA Conference

One interesting part of the COPMI project has been the exchange of information about work relating to children of parents with a mental illness in various parts of the world. This Update includes links to information from the UK and Canada (see below). At the TheMHS-AICAFMHA conference in September on the Gold Coast we aim to have a display of various books, videos and pamphlets that people working with children and families where a parent has a mental illness find useful. They originate from Australia and other countries. Please keep sharing information about what you find useful so that others may benefit from your experience.

Parental Mental Health and Child Welfare Network (UK)

A new network has been launched in the UK for social care and health workers who work with parents with a mental health problem or their children. It has been set up to promote joint working between adult mental health and children's services. As a sub site of the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) website it includes information about the network, links to key resources in adult mental health and children's services and information about network and related events. For more information visit www.scie.org.uk/mhnetwork

Parenting Edition of "Visions" Journal (Canada)

The 'Visions" journal is prepared quarterly by the British Columbia Mental Health and Addictions partnership, Vancouver. The current issue, Vol 2. No. 2 Spring 2004, has the theme "Parenting" and focuses on parental mental illness, with articles from practitioners, parents, offspring and advocates (including Vicki Cowling). The journal can be downloaded from www.mentalhealthaddictions.bc.ca Click on publications.
