COPMI Project Update - 17/01/2003Welcome to the first COPMI Update for 2003. I look forward to working with or hearing from many of the readers of this site over the coming year. Resources - Pilot TestingThankyou to those who responded to my call in the last Update (13/12/02) for groups interested in assisting the project by pilot testing some of the materials we are currently developing. I will be sending letters out to groups/agencies over the next couple of weeks to formalize our pilot testing arrangements, but its not too late to register your interest in being involved. If all goes to plan, the first trial of pilot materials will be held during April/May 2003. COPMI Green PaperThe COPMI Project Team have today submitted the final draft of the 'Draft Principles and National Practice Guidelines for Services and People Working With Children of Parents With A Mental Illness' (also to be known as the 'COPMI Green Paper') to the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing for their consideration. We hope to be able to distribute the Green Paper in early February, following 'sign off' by the Commonwealth. Over the ensuing 6 months, there will be trials of some aspects of the document and a range of individuals and organizations will be asked to consider in detail how they might address the recommendations. This process will provide valuable feedback to the COPMI project, to enable the final Principles and National Practice Guidelines for Services and People Working With Children of Parents With A Mental Illness document to be developed with an anticipated release date in early 2004. KOPING KITThe KOPING FORUM in Queensland have produced the KOPING KIT, to assist local families to identify needs and improve access to support for children and young people in families where a parent or caregiver is living with a mental health problem. Example copies of the folded A3 sheet of information are available by e-mailing Julie_Kempton@health.qld.gov.au. For those who haven't heard about the staffing change, Julie is the project officer for the KOPING Forum whilst Michelle Hegarty is on leave with new son, Jack. Please keep the COPMI project in mind if you develop or find other relevant resource materials for children, young people, families or service providers. We're keen to share information about what's happening in Australia and overseas in the COPMI field and to reduce any 'reinvention of wheels'. Elizabeth Fudge
