COPMI Project Update - 01/11/2002

Resource List

An updated copy of the Resource List is now available. It includes more information about the Parenting, Children and Mental Health Resource Kit; a spiral bound resource booklet of reproducible factsheets designed to support workers and families around issues to do with parenting and mental illness. I understand the Kit was launched in the Central Coast Area of NSW during Mental Health Week. I have also listed a couple program evaluations reports that have been sent to me recently - one is from a group in Vancouver in Canada, who have run monthly recreational programs - "Super Saturdays"- for children of parents with a mental illness in their area. The other is from Becca Alchin and is the report of the pilot program for the SKIPS (Supporting Kids In Primary Schools) Project in Victoria.

Please keep sending information about your COPMI programs - I am especially interested in program evaluation reports.

Literature List - clarification

Just for clarification?the COPMI literature list on this site is not a 'best evidence' list. It is a list of all evidence that was reviewed in the development of the Discussion Document and since.

The literature was found through a number of CD-ROM and internet based databases including Medline, PsychINFO, CINAHL, Family, Embase and Health STAR. Key search words included 'offspring', mentally ill', 'family', 'caregiver', 'mental patient', 'mental disorders', 'early intervention', 'prevention', and child protection'. I was also sent literature by COPMI Reference Group and National Consultation group members and I made specific requests for Australian literature through this website and other contacts.

COPMI Discussion Document feedback

Sincere thanks to all who have responded to this document. Over 60 formal responses have been received, and many of these have been collated from small groups of individuals. We appreciate the time, effort and thought that has gone into the responses and hope to do them justice in the next development stage of the principles and guidelines document. Thankyou all.
