COPMI Project Update - 21/11/2003Reference group meeting - Next stepsThe COPMI Reference Group held a very productive meeting in Sydney on Tuesday where they developed recommendations for the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing based on the feedback received about the 'Draft Principles and Actions for Services and People Working With Children of Parents With A Mental Illness'. They also made a series of recommendations in light of the evaluation of the resource materials developed and pilot tested this year with consumers, children, families, other carers and service providers. Resource list addition - novel for young adultsPaola Mason (from COMIC) and I have both recently read the book "Saving Francesca" by Melina Marchetta (2003, Penguin Books Australia. ISBN 0670040452), which was recommended to us by a school librarian. The book's narrator, Francesca Spinelli, is in the middle of a turbulent year as she has just commenced Year Eleven at a new school and she and her father and brother are also deeply affected by her mother Mia's depression. Paola and I found the book a pleasure to read. It manages to deal with some difficult issues in a sensitive way whilst maintaining the reader's attention with it's pace and humour. Written by the author of the best-selling and much loved "Looking for Alibrandi", it's available in many public and school libraries and you will also find a range of book reviews about it on the Internet.
