COPMI Project Update - 30/01/2004HAPPY 2004 - what has happened since the last update? The final draft of the document outlining principles and actions for services and people working with children of parents with a mental illness was forwarded by the COPMI Project Team to the Department of Health and Ageing prior to Christmas and we are currently putting final touches to the booklets for families and the website for workers which we developed and pilot tested last year. All is still therefore 'on track' for the release of these resources some time in the next few months, subject to the final'sign off' by the Department. Baby Care Plan Now Available! Thanks to the many people involved in the development and review of the 'Baby Care Plan - Parent's Wishes' tool - now downloadable from this site. It has been developed to assist parents to plan for the care of their baby should they be temporarily unable to provide that care due to illness and/or hospitalisation. Whilst it is not a legally binding document, it has been perceived by parents and service providers who've reviewed it to be a useful tool. The form is based upon the children's plan concept initially developed by COMIC (http://www.howstat.com/comic/). Please let me know what you think of the Baby Care Plan and advise us of any suggestions for improvement. Resource List additionsI've added some more resources to our list. One is the downloadable pamphlet "Can a Depressed Parent be A Good Parent? - You Bet!" from the Children's Hospital Boston and National Depression Screening Day Program (details on page 8 of the Resource List). Also included in the Professional Development section (page 10) are details of the recently released multi-media education tool called "Being Seen and Heard; The Needs of Children with Parents With Mental Health Illness", which has been developed in association with the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK.
