COPMI Project Update - 20/03/2004

Consumer/Carer Update

It's incredible but we are already in March, where have the years gone? I am and I know that there are many people out there who are waiting for the resource materials to roll out. The process has been a long and extensive one but I believe we have been able to generate a great deal of interest, discussion and very shortly some materials on the subject matter to promote and help support us in this arena. Isn't it exciting! I know I can't wait and am itching to jump with it all. I can't wait to see and hear who receives it, I can't wait to see and hear who implements the guidelines and principles, I can't wait to see and hear that it helps people and families feel that "They are not alone". We at COMIC feel though that this is still just the beginning, but its a good one 'bringing it all together' and hope and pray that it will be further supported and encouraged.

At this stage I would personally like to thank everyone involved, from The Project Team, The Reference Groups, The Commonwealth, interested parties but more so the Children, Young People and Parents that have been involved. I have learnt a great deal but more than anything I have seen the good will, support and kindness of many which has been a delight. For a subject matter that has been invisible for such a long time it is reassuring that the light is starting to shine through and I can say I am proud to be part of the process bringing this forward with so many others.

I would like to conclude with a quote that has kept COMIC resilient "United we bargain - Divided we beg" - it has been the coming together of many individuals, groups and families that has contributed to this project and only by working together will we achieve what we want - A mental health system that is focused on helping families not only individuals through challenges.
