When you?ve been diagnosed with bipolar disorder . . .

SANE Australia offers hope to Australians diagnosed with bipolar disorder, with the release of a new resource ? The Bipolar Disorder Video Kit

The Bipolar Disorder Video Kit features a 40 minute video giving personal perspectives and experiences and real-life tips for coping. Six people ? those with the illness and their carers ? talk about the human side of bipolar disorder, from early symptoms through diagnosis, to managing day-to-day. The video, developed by Speaking from Experience, is accompanied by the new SANE Guide to Bipolar Disorder.

The SANE Guide to Bipolar Disorder answers the questions: What is bipolar disorder? What?s the best treatment? And how can I help myself? SANE has gathered together the latest information on the illness, its treatment and what people can do to deal with symptoms, with helpful hints for staying well. The guide was developed with the help of people with the condition, their families and carers, as well as medical experts in the area.

SANE Australia?s Executive Director, Barbara Hocking said: ?The new video and SANE guide will help the hundreds-of-thousands of Australians affected by bipolar disorder make sense of their illness. Knowing you are not alone and learning ways to manage the illness are important steps to recovery.?

Bipolar disorder (sometimes called manic depression) is a medical condition affecting the normal functioning of the brain, to cause extreme mood changes. People can have a very ?high? mood ? referred to as a manic episode ? or very low and depressed mood. Some people are so affected they will experience periods of psychosis.

The Bipolar Disorder Video Kit costs $45, plus postage and handling, and can be purchased from the SANE online Bookshop (www.sane.org) or by contacting the SANE office 03 9682 5933 for an order form or to place a telephone order.

The SANE Guide to Bipolar Disorder can be purchased separately for $9, plus postage and handing.
