** 2004 BUILDING ON FAMILY STRENGTHS CONFERENCE--Still Time to Register

Thought you'd missed your chance to attend the 11th Annual Building on Family Strengths Conference? No way! Registration information, an online registration form, and the conference agenda are easily accessed at the conference website (http://www.rtc.pdx.edu/pgConference.shtml). Although the deadline for early registration has passed, you can register online until Monday, May 3, or even at the door. (Though it makes the organizers' job much easier if you register sooner online, rather than later on site!)

Accommodations information is also available at our website: The Portland Hilton's toll-free reservation line is 1-800-HILTONS. Ask for the Building on Family Strengths conference rate, which the Hilton has just extended through April 23rd.

Highlights of the agenda include:
*A pre-conference workshop, designed for family member attendees, presented by Elaine Slaton and Shannon CrossBear of the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health, on "Understanding Research and Evaluation in Relation to Social Change"
*Dr. Jane Knitzer's opening address, entitled "Children's mental health: Looking back, looking forward"
*Our Friday research plenary featuring Dr. Robert Friedman ("Creating Informed choice for families: The link between individualized care, data-based systems of care, and evidence-based practice") and Dr. Andy Pumariega ("Cultural competence in systems of care: The evidence-base for its rationale and effectiveness")
*A Saturday panel presentation, moderated by Joanne Fuller, with panelists Dr. David Arredondo, attorney Kurt Kumli, and Judge Ray Davilla ("Juvenile offenders with mental illness: What can be done," describing the country's first juvenile mental health court)
*More than 80 breakout sessions are scheduled over the course of the conference, along with our traditional Friday evening poster session and reception

Special events for children, youth, and families, conducted in collaboration with the Oregon Family Support Network, include a Thursday evening reception/game time (5:30-7:30), a Friday evening pizza party and trip to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry's OMNIMAX theatre (to view "Top Speed"; see the description at www.topspeedfilm.com/broad.html), and a Saturday afternoon trip to the Oregon Zoo (http://www.zooregon.org).
