Mental Health News

On World Mental Health Day (WMHD) employers and business leaders throughout the world will be asked to consider how `mentally healthy' their workplaces are. WMHD is an initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health and is co-sponsored by the World Health Organisation. The international theme for WMHD 2001 is mental health and work.

In Australia, the Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA), is continuing a campaign to highlight the role of employers in supporting the mental health of all employees and reducing stigma of mental illness in the workplace.

The MHCA, in collaboration with other mental health and community organisations, will host community forums in each capital city and in a regional area in each state/territory. Guest speakers will include business leaders and employers who have positive mental health practices in their workplaces and people with mental illness discussing what helps and what doesn't, in relation to managing a mental illness and maintaining or returning to employment.

The MHCA has developed promotional material in the form of posters and postcards for WMHD. If you would like promotional material or further details about the community forums, please contact:
Neil Wildman or Rebecca Sakrouge, Mental Health Council of Australia
PH: (02) 6285 3100 or email Rebecca.Sakrouge@mhca.com.au
