Saturday 15 June 2002. A limited number of registration fees will be waived for consumers wishing to attend the meeting on this day, and a session dedicated to issues of interest to consumers is being organised.

AAIMHI/NIFTeY CONFERENCE - FROZEN FUTURES?
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS UPDATE
The focus of this conference is on the effects of both ante-natal and post-natal stress on infants and what can be done to promote the most positive early experiences, as well as to address the effects of early stress to ensure that children don't have "frozen futures". The closing date for submissions has been extended to Friday, 16 May. More information here.

Mental Health News  

The Foundation for Young Australians is launching an exciting new initiative, giving young people the opportunity to make funding decisions for youth focussed initiatives in their state or territory. Youth Grant Making is a key component of The Foundation's Youth Participation Strategy, which seeks to create positive opportunities for young people to participate pro-actively in their community. The initiative is based on international best practice models but is new for the Australian community. Young people aged 16-23 are invited to apply for a 2 year position as a grant-maker on a committee based in their individual state or territory.

RE: Support Group For Children or Siblings of a Mentally Ill Person.
Young ARAFMI, a support group for children or siblings of a person with a mental illness will meet on the last Monday of every month in
North Ryde. This free informal support meeting has been established to help the forgotten people of mental illness, the thousands of children, brothers or sisters of the mentally ill. Young ARAFMI will meet for the first time on April 29, 2002 at 7pm and is open to anyone over the age of 16. Due to the nature of the group, please do not refer parents of a mentally ill person or the mentally ill person to this group. The mental illnesses that will be the focus are bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, compulsive disorder, paranoid disorder, severe depression and other related mental disorders.
