THE REPERCUSSIONS OF SELF-HARM (7.30 Report 2/10/2002)
An astonishing 15 per cent of admissions to public hospital emergency departments follow suicide attempts and other self-inflicted injuries. A former victim of the condition has decided to reveal his experiences, and hopefully to help others, by writing a book from his prison cell.

ALL IN THE MIND - Is good therapy only for the rich?
Sunday 6 October, 1pm, repeat Wednesday 9 October, 2.30pm, Radio National This week, clinical psychologists on Medicare - why not? Some 20 per cent of Australians experience disabling anxiety or depression and could benefit from the services of a good therapist. And there's good evidence that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy works for depression. But who can afford it? Medicare covers the services of psychiatrists, not clinical psychologists. But there aren't enough psychiatrists to go around and some argue this policy prioritises pharmacological treatment over the talking therapies.
