A conference to explore the benefits of early intervention for families of young children, at risk of having poor life outcomes.

Second World Conference on the Promotion of Mental Health and the Prevention of Mental and Behavioural Disorders
In
London from 11-13 September 2002.   Organised by the World Federation for Mental Health and the Clifford Beers Foundation in collaboration with The Carter Center.  It is co-sponsored by the World Health Organisation.  More information is available at http://www.charity.demon.co.uk .

RURAL AND REMOTE NURSING SUMMIT
To be held in Adelaide in July 2002. It will help ensure that current and proposed developments in nursing policy and practice are informed by the realities for nurses and for nursing practice in rural and remote areas of Australia.
The 2002
Summit will be a public event.   Anyone interested in the contribution of nursing to health outcomes in rural and remote areas will be welcome.

SANE Australia, has called (23/1) for a Federal parliamentary inquiry into the care of people with mental illness following recent events around Australia - the police shooting in Victoria, the escapes from custody in Queensland, and the shackling of patients in hospital wards in South Australia. A new study based on data from the seminal National Comorbidity Survey on prevalence of mental illness indicates that the problem of untreated mental illness may have more to do with personal psychological barriers than with system financing or access. Light hearted, often off topic.... but incredibly supportive! It is a place ADD people can go and be themselves, get advice, make friends, offload if they are having a bad day etc. They are restrictedgroups and people need to prove that they either show the tendencies, have a diagnosis or have a spouse or child who are ADD and they need to understand a bit more.
