Dear Mental Health Consumer or Carer,
The Consumer and Carer Participation Workgroup, a sub-group of the National Consumer and Carer
Forum (NCCF) here at the Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA), aims to produce a consumer
and carer participation policy to be applied nationally.
The workgroup is currently undertaking research for the participation policy. Janet Meagher has
produced the attached questionnaire and has asked me to distribute this as widely as possible.
The aim of the questionnaire is to tap into the wealth of experience of the last 25 years of
mental health advocacy in order to assist the development of the consumer and carer participation
policy.
We are asking consumers and carers to please complete the attached questionnaire* and return
it to me at either steve.morris@mhca.com.au or PO Box 174, DEAKIN WEST, ACT 2600. We are also
asking you to forward this questionnaire to anyone who is likely to have significant historical
input on consumer or carer activities in Australia. Your assistance in this matter is most
appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Steve Morris
Policy Officer
Mental Health Council of Australia

DEPRESSION (Ockham's Razor: 09/02/2003)
Author of 'The Insatiable Desire of Injured Love', Sally Morrison, tackles the growing
phenomenon of depression in young people, which has trebled in the last 30 years. Despite
the many luxuries and enabling technologies available to them, young people are becoming less
happy and secure. We are an educated society, yet what do we do for our children when they are
down? http://www.abc.net.au/rn/science/ockham/stories/s776451.htm
