From ABC Health Updates:
Transcript: PROFESSOR FIONA STANLEY (Enough Rope: 19/05/2003)
Amazingly, the current Australian of the Year hasn't won a grand slam, an
Ashes test or Olympic gold. Fiona Stanley is actually a Professor, she's
from Perth, and what she has to say about the way we raise our children
should really be in the headlines. http://www.abc.net.au/enoughrope/stories/s858518.htm
Andrew Denton on the show: "I'm going to set you a challenge. You've heard what
Fiona's had to say. There probably couldn't be a more critical issue to
Australia's future. If you are interested in designing a 30-second television
ad- a community service announcement so we could show it on the ABC as well-
contact us at 'Enough Rope' and we'll work with you to create an ad that you
can use as a community service campaign to raise awareness." Details at
http://www.abc.net.au/enoughrope/stories/s858226.htm - closes June 6.
** ALL IN THE MIND: Invisible Children: Mummy has the Sad Sickness
Sunday 25 May, 1pm, Radio National Small children frequently take on a
carer role well before they're ready for it, and their needs remain invisible
to adult mental health workers and even to other family members. Many
parents are frightened to disclose that they have children for fear that
they'll be taken away. What are the critical issues and efforts in Australia
to put children's experiences at the fore? http://www.abc.net.au/rn/science/mind/default.htm
** AUSTRALIAN STORY: About a Boy
Monday, 26 May, 8pm, Radio National
'About a Boy' is the 'Seven Up' style story of 15-year-old Dan Halloran. Dan's
life was first documented when he was a nine-year-old growing up in a
household dominated by his mother's schizophrenia. Now, on the verge of
adulthood, Dan has helped write a book to try to assist other families going
through similar experiences. In doing so he has kept a promise and fulfilled
his mother's last wish. There will be an internet forum after the program. http://www.abc.net.au/austory/default.htm
