During April the ABC's 'Four Corners' screened a BBC program called 'Hazards of
the Happy Pill', which featured claims that the anti-depressant drug paroxetine
(branded as Aropax in Australia) may lead to aggression, self-harm and
difficulties withdrawing.
The screening prompted more than 1 000 calls to the SANE Helpline in the days
following the program, from viewers who were concerned by the claims. For your
information, a report, prepared by SANE's Executive Director, Barbara Hocking,
provides an analysis of a sample of 500 of these calls and describes the issues
raised by callers. Download PDF of report.

ABOUT A BOY (Australian Story: 26/05/03)
'About a Boy' is the 'Seven Up' style story of 15-year-old Dan Halloran. Dan's
life was first documented when he was a nine-year-old growing up in a household
dominated by his mother's schizophrenia. Now, on the verge of adulthood, Dan has
helped write a book to try to assist other families going through similar
experiences. In doing so he has kept a promise and fulfilled his mother's
last wish. http://www.abc.net.au/austory/transcripts/s859860.htm
INVISIBLE CHILDREN - WHEN MUMMY OR DADDY HAS THE SAD SICKNESS (All In The
Mind: 25/05/2003)
Small children frequently take on a carer role well before they're ready for
it, and their needs remain invisible to adult mental health workers and even
to other family members. Many parents are frightened to disclose that they have
children for fear that they'll be taken away. What are the critical issues and
efforts in Australia to put children's experiences at the fore? http://www.abc.net.au/rn/science/mind/s860629.htm
