Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ's
What is Majordomo?
Majordomo is a type of list server software. AICAFMHA uses Majordomo to manage its discussion and
news lists.
Who is in charge of my list?
AICAFMHA lists are managed by the list owner. The list owner "looks after" all the members, reads/moderates all
the messages sent out, deals with problems, answers questions
and removes/joins people.
You can contact the list owner by emailing
majordomo-owner@www.aicafmha.net.au
How do I join/subscribe to a list?
To join a list, send an email message to listname-request@www.aicafmha.net.au with the command
subscribe
in the body of your message.
If you have a signature in your messages type
end
on the next line, or Majordomo will try to read your signature as if it were a command.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How do I leave/unsubscribe from a list?
To leave a list, send a message to majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au and in the BODY of the message type:
unsubscribe listname
where listname is the name of the list you want to leave.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What if I can't leave/unsubscribe from the list?
If you try to send an unsubscribe command from a different address than the one you joined with, then
the majordomo software may not recognise you.
In this case, send a message to majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au and in the BODY of the message type:
unsubscribe listname email@address
where listname is the name of the list you want to leave and email@address is the email address which
you wish to unsubscribe.
If you continue to have difficulties, email the listowner at majordomo-owner@www.aicafmha.net.au or
contact secretary@aicafmha.net.au
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How do I send a message to the list?
Send your message to:
listname@www.aicafmha.net.au
where listname is the name of the list to which you wish to post.
You must be a member of the list to post a message.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which lists do I belong to?
To find out which AICAFMHA lists you are a member of, send an email message to
majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au with
which
in the body of the message.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How do I get help from a human?
Contact AICAFMHA at secretary@aicafmha.net.au or by
phoning 08 8132 0786, or
email majordomo-owner@www.aicafmha.net.au with your request.
Messages sent to these addresses are read by a person, not a computer.
Majordomo says I am not a list member - help!
If you try to send a message from a different address than the one you joined with, then the
Majordomo software will not recognise you.
How do I complain about an offensive message?
If someone sends a message that seems to be in questionable taste or of dubious relevance to the
list, please do NOT send a complaint or comment to the whole list.
Can I send attachments to AICAFMHA lists?
Yes. However we do ask that attachments are kept to a minimum and of small file size. If you post a
message with an attachment, you need to be aware that some people will not be able to access the
attachment because of differences in file coding methods used by different mail programs.
Does AICAFMHA sell email addresses?
AICAFMHA will not pass on or sell your email address to any other organisation, commercial or otherwise.
Similarly, list subscribers and non-subscribers are not able to access the email addresses of other
subscribers. View the AICAFMHA Privacy Statement for further information.
Have you heard about this virus?
Please don't forward any message about viruses to your list. Most warning messages about viruses
are hoaxes and can cause a lot of confusion. Examples of hoax viruses include: "Pen Pals",
"Good Times", "Trojan", "Join the Crew", "Red Alert", etc.
If we need to warn people about a virus we will email the lists.
Can I get a virus from an email message?
You CANNOT get a virus from a plain text email message.
If the message has an attachment such as a word-processed document, or a spreadsheet, this has the potential to
contain a virus which could damage other documents, spreadsheets etc.
