Getting started with electronic lists

Overview

News Lists

Joining a news list is a simple way of having information relevant to your interests sent directly to you.
The AICAFMHA News list carries a fortnightly e-letter which will provide you with information about the association, upcoming events, mental health news, and relevant resources.

Discussion Lists

A discussion list is used by a group of people with a common interest to share ideas, views, opinions and information. Subscribers to a discussion list can choose to participate in discussions by emailing responses, or simply 'listen'.
AICAFMHA discussion lists have and are being developed to accomodate forums for both broad discussion, as well as discussion on specialised topics.

How do lists work?

You join a list by sending your email address to the mail list server. Your address is added to the list of subscribers. You will then receive all emails that are sent to the list. You can reply to messages by posting a response to the whole list, or only to the person who posted the original message. You can leave the list at anytime.

Using a list

Sending commands

You can interact with the Majordomo software (which manages the list) by sending it commands in the body of mail messages. Please do not place your command in the subject line. Commands in the subject line will not be processed. They must be placed in the body of the message.

Command messages should be sent to          majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au

Multiple commands can be placed in the same message, provided you place each command on a line by itself.
If you use a signature block, we recommend you put end on the line after your command, or delete your signature.

Finding a list

To get a list of the publicly available mailing lists on the AICAFMHA system, send an email to majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au with

lists
in the body of the mail message. You will receive an email listing the name of each list along with instructions on how to access a brief description of the list.

Subscribing to a list

To receive mail at the address from which you are sending your mail, simply send an email to majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au with

subscribe listname
in the body of the mail message.

If you wish to subscribe an alternative email address to the list from the one from which you are sending mail, send an email to majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au with

subscribe listname name@address
in the body of the mail message.

Unsubscribing from a list

To unsubscribe the address from which you are sending your mail, simply send an email to majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au with

unsubscribe listname
in the body of the mail message.

If you wish to unsubscribe an alternative email address to the list from the one from which you are sending mail, send an email to majordomo@www.aicafmha.net.au with

unsubscribe listname name@address
in the body of the mail message.
