COPMI Project Update - (Dec 18, 2006)

COPMI Project Update - (Dec 18, 2006)

COPMI and other DoHA funded mental health prevention, promotion and early intervention initiatives.

Early discussions have begun with our colleagues from KidsHelpline, KidsMatter, MindMatters and HeadSpace as we seek to ensure that, where-ever possible, the national COPMI initiative can support (via 'copmi'-related content or capacity building ) the endeavours of other prevention, promotion and early intervention initiatives that are also funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. These discussions will continue in 2007 and will include our participation in the review of MindMatters.
We are also keen to assist any other groups who would like to value-add to their programs/services to be more responsive to 'copmi' and their families. Please give me a call if you'd like to discuss opportunities.

State/Territory 'copmi-related' News

Over the past month I have caught up with the Mental Health Department nominees in all Australian states and territories but one and have been heartened to hear of the many steps torward better mental health outcomes for children of parents with a mental illness around the country. Many are featured in the Story section of our website and we hope new stories will be added in the next 2 months as service evaluation reports become public in a couple of jurisdictions. Generally, the Departmental nominees reported that they had found it useful to learn of other states/territories programs - learning from each other and avoiding the 're-invention of wheels'.

Last Update for 2006

As this will be my last Update for 2006, may I take the opportunity to wish all those involved with the Australian COPMI initiative the very best for the holiday season. Thank you to all who have assisted by providing new ideas, feedback about our resources and who have contributed to shared learnings via the website and e-list.

Updates will return in February 2007. All the very best to you all for the new year.
